Chocolate easter eggs and a new series of DOCTOR WHO - it could be Christmas!

Today, the DOCTOR WHO SERIES 5 (BBC OUTREACH UK TOUR) publicity machine trundles on and arrived in Salford (near Manchester, Northern England).

eyeofhorus.org.uk reader, Justin Thomas has kindly emailed coverage of the event.

It was a fairly rainy and very cold day, but this didn't stop the incredible cheer Matt and Karen received from lots of eager local schoolchildren when they stepped off the bus.  There was a photocall with Matt, Karen and the TARDIS and then they were joined by lots of the children.  Matt and Karen were then taken back into the warmth of the bus to be interviewed by various local reporters while the children were taken into the Lowry theatre in order to watch episode 1 of the new series which was then introduced by the stars.

The bus tour continues for Matt Smith & Karen Gillan to publicise SERIES 5.

Nice use of UK TV Licence payer's money. The point being?

Matt Smith is the Doctor - get used to him! He's going to be incredible.

The RADIO TIMES is publishing the first cover to feature Steven Moffat's DOCTOR WHO SERIES 5

SPOILERS inside the edition? Hope not - we want the magic back on Saturday evenings.

Matt Smith is interviewed for London-based (Kentish Town area where Smith hangs out in) GAY TIMES magazine (including a stunning front cover) ahead of 3rd April's launch for SERIES 5 (aka SEASON 31).

We also have unprecedented coverage of the new series, with exclusive content including the first ever interview with the latest addition to the cast, Arthur Darvill. We speak with the Doctor's assistant Karen Gillan, head writer Steven Moffat, executive producer Piers Wenger and a selection of other characters and creatives, both returning and new. What's more, writer Gareth Roberts reveals that Matt Smith is set to appear pretty much naked in episode eleven, while costume designer Ray Holman tells us what kind of underwear the new Doctor prefers.

The magazine is on sale from 24 March 2010, and some content - I guess - may not be suitable for younger viewers.

BBC MAGAZINES is re-launching the ever popular DOCTOR WHO ADVENTURES magazine for the pre-teens.

DOCTOR WHO ADVENTURES magazine is set to re-launch on Thursday 1 April, and will feature new Doctor Who branding throughout the title, along with exclusive content.

Inside the revamped issue, which goes on sale two days before the new Doctor's first episode airs on BBC, is the first in a series of exclusive diary reports from actor Matt Smith. Issue 160 of the magazine sees Matt write about auditioning for the part of The Doctor and meeting The Doctor's new companion, Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan. In addition there is a sneak peek at The Doctor's first episode, The Eleventh Hour, a star interview with Matt Smith, a free TARDIS clock and the chance to win your very own life-size Dalek.

Other new features include a brand new 'Fast Fact' page, which allows readers to cut out and collect fact files on all their favourite Doctor Who characters and a fresh new DOCTOR WHO ADVENTURES comic strip. There is also the introduction of a secret code; this runs throughout the magazine and allows readers to decode hidden Doctor Who facts and information. Favourites, such as puzzles, quizzes and posters also feature.

Moray Laing, Editor of DOCTOR WHO ADVENTURES says: "The new look DOCTOR WHO ADVENTURES magazine will prepare all young Doctor Who fans for the arrival of the Eleventh Doctor and his new companion Amy. With Matt's contributions our new and exclusive content will keep all of our regular and new readers, up to date with the latest Time Lord travels."

The magazine will retain its weekly cover price of £2.10 and continue to give away DOCTOR WHO free gifts, the first of which is a TARDIS clock.

BBC AMERICA HD has released a NEW TRAILER for DOCTOR WHO - SERIES 5 that starts in their channel on 17 April 2010. Here's the two versions.

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH has revealed that Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor first encounter with an alien race is called Atraxi (an orbiting crowd of thuggish galactic policemen).

The article does confirm that the series starts on 3 April 2010, as we have stated for months.

And the complete description of the TARDIS interior? Here it is!

This new TARDIS- not an obligatory accessory for each new Doctor, but required by the damage done to it in Tennant's last episode - is big. It must be three times the size of Tennant's, on multiple levels with staircases in between. Less grubby than its predecessor, with a transparent plastic floor on the main level, its walls are resplendent with polished copper and its central column features a blown glass decoration that could be straight from Tales of the Unexpected. There are old car seats and downstairs - downstairs! - a swing. With a nod to Paul McGann's TARDIS, the central column features an old TV screen on an extendable trellis. It also has a 1980s-style computer keyboard, and a His-Master's-Voice style trumpet speaker.

The British newspaper, THE GUARDIAN has published the first mainstream interview with Matt Smith.

On his Doctor's character, Smith states:

"He's a little reckless. He'll walk into a room and have a million things to do. And, as opposed to knowing exactly how to get out, he'll take it up to the precipice: don't know, don't know, don't know, and boom, there's the idea. And it's a bit mad and reckless. It's very doof, doof, doof. And he's got a companion who I think is the hardest to handle. And she's quite mad. But the Doctor's quite mad as well. So together."

"He's lost so many people and devastated so much. bad or good, he's brought whole empires down. He's seen a lot, and that's part of his personality. But that's also what gives him such joy and effervescence."
