28 January 2014 | SERIES 8 | CAPALDI costume revealed

UPDATED - 31 JANUARY 2014

BBC ERROR - The BBC misappropriated the 12th Doctor's new costume footwear to the DR MARTEN brand. The shoes "Brogue-styled" boots are made by British company, LOAKE and sold exclusively by THE BRITISH BOOT COMPANY (in Kentish Town - located near Capaldi's London home).

The boots cost £215.

The 12th Doctor's outfit has been unveiled - with an under whelming sign of relief - it goes back to basics with mid-length coat (lined with a Pertwee-Red satin), waistcoat cardigan, crisp white shirt (buttoned collar - akin to Jonny Lee Miller's Sherlock Holmes in ELEMENTARY), skinny dark blue trousers and shiny Dr Marten boots.

It's sharp, fuss-free and stylish. Let's hope it remains that way - with a variation on the lining over the years? And, yes, very Third Doctor.

Commenting on his outfit, Capaldi said: "He's (Howard Burden - Costume Designer) woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100% Rebel Time Lord."

However, it is a shame that collector's of the CHARACTER OPTION 5" action figures will be denied a sculpt of the 12th Doctor as the company focused on the horrendous 3.75" range of kiddies.

14 January 2014 | SERIES 8 | CAPALDI horses around - nearly

Last night, as the filming of SERIES 8 continues, in just a Victorian style Nightshirt and "combination Long-Johns", Peter Capaldi was spotted galloping through the Victorian streets of Cardiff on a horse. Well sort of.

Riding a "stunt horse", the 12th Doctor loses control of his steed.

Location photos can be seen here.

7 January 2014 | SERIES 8 | CAPALDI AND COLEMAN

Today, the 12th (or 14th?) Doctor, Peter Capaldi returns to BBC WALES studios to start work on SERIES 8.

Still wearing the previous actor's costume, Capaldi's first publicity photograph sees him and Jenna Coleman channeling Jon Pertwee and Katy Manning from a similarly posed publicity image from 1971's TERROR OF THE AUTONS.

Welcome aboard the TARDIS, Mr Capaldi.

OFFICIAL BBC PRESS RELEASE

The new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, stepped on set today for his first full day of filming as production begins on series eight of the hit BBC show.

10.2 million tuned in on Christmas Day to get their first glimpse of Capaldi in one of TV's most iconic roles in the festive special The Time Of The Doctor, which saw Matt Smith hang up his bow tie after four years in the role.

Capaldi was revealed as the Doctor in a live BBC One show in August, after months of speculation about the next Doctor's identity.

Arriving on set in Cardiff to begin filming, Peter Capaldi, said: "New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world."

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, added: "First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins."

Accompanying The Doctor on his adventures will be companion Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman.

The first episode of series eight has been written by Steven Moffat, with the second episode penned by Phil Ford. These are the first episodes that Peter will shoot and they are directed by Ben Wheatley.

Ben Stephenson, Controller of Drama Commissioning, said: "Excitement and anticipation fills the air as Peter Capaldi's Doctor takes control of the TARDIS for the very first time today. It's going to be one hell of a ride and I can't wait for the journey to start."

Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One, commented: "A new year, a new face, a new Doctor! 2014 has arrived and it's Peter Capaldi's time so let the adventures begin!"

Filming is taking place in Cardiff until August 2014. Doctor Who is executive produced by Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin, and produced by Nikki Wilson and Peter Bennett. It is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One.
